Luthier's Diary - Instrument set up

Be it a newly bought violin or one that is being used for a few months, very often, a "set up" is necessary to allow your violin to perform at its best and to allow you to practice and perform at your best. This is how we do it at Arco Strings:

Retrieve the soundpost from inside the violin

Check for soundpost's condition and put it back to its optimum position.

Checking for positioning of soundpost

Re-shape the bridge if necessary.

Re-install the bridge and check for string height.

Adjust the tone of the bridge if necessary.

Greasing the peg for better tuning action and stablity.

Re-adjust the chinrest for better comfort.

Set up complete and ready to play.

At Arco Strings, we do this for all professional instruments.
